Left Ventricular Performance
نویسنده
چکیده
THLIE pharmacologic effects of digitalis preparations on the circulatory system have been the subject of numerous investigations in both animals and man. Recently, studies in dogs 1 and man,2' 3as well as experimental work on the proteins of the contractile element of heart muscle,4 have demonstrated that digitalis directly augments the force of myocardial contraction. Most investigations in man, however, have dealt with measurements of flow and pressure changes in the pulmonary circulation,5-'2 and only a few have assessed left ventricular function directly.2' 3 The following study was undertaken in order to evaluate the effects of acute digitalization on some hemodynamic measures of human left ventricular performance during cardiac catheterization. They include not only standard pressure-flow phenomena but also several rate-dependent aspects of function such as mean ventricular stroke power, the duration and the mean rate of systolic ejection, and the rate of pressure rise in the left ventricle.

متن کاملDoppler-Derived Myocardial Performance Index in Healthy Children in Shiraz
Background: Assessment of myocardial function is essential in heart disease, but in regard to systolic and diastolic functions such evaluation has limitation. Ejection fraction is difficult to assess in abnormally-shaped ventricles, and diastolic inflow velocity pattern may be fused because of tachycardia. Objective: A myocardial performance index (MPI) or Tei index has been developed for adult...
متن کاملComparison of Cardiac Function in Young Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia and Healthy Individuals Using Echocardiography Method
Background: Cardiac dysfunction due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death among patients with thalassemia intermedia. This study was performed to compare the cardiac function in thalassemia intermedia patients with normal subjects by means of echocardiography. Materials and Methods: This was a case-control study performed on 22 patients affected by thalassemia int...
متن کاملNormal Value of Left Ventricular End-Systolic Elastance in Infants and Children
Background: In certain conditions, there is a need for a specific and improved measure of cardiac performance. Routine methods for assessing left ventricular (LV) function are based on image-analysis or right heart monitoring which do not allow evaluation of ventriculo-arterial interaction. Chen et al presented a noninvasive method allowing measurement of end-systolic pressure–volume relation ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Cardiac Function in Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia
Abstract Background Thalassemia intermedia is a variety of beta thalassemia which shows clinical symptoms somewhere between asymptomatic carriers and thalassemia major. Cardiac dysfunctions due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death in these patients. The purpose of this study is to evaluate cardiac function in these patients by echocardiography. Materials and Met...
